Our baby classes are for children aged 3 months to 7 months old.
At Family Aquatics, we encourage swimming lessons early on to introduce your child to water which gives them a head start to their swimming journey. We focus on water familiarisation, conditioning and acceptance through a range of interactive songs and rhyme.
Our qualified instructors, teach parents/guardians from the very beginning about the variety of positioning holds and techniques to encourage their child/rens independence. With a wealth of knowledge our team brings, our instructors always explain each skill set, why it’s necessary and demonstrate how to execute it. The baby classes explore a range of skills such as moving through the water, buoyancy, rolling from front to back as well as building a connection with their parent/guardians and instructor.
Our goal is for you and your baby to have an enjoyable and fun experience by using sensory balls, interactive games and song, all which contribute to a certain skill set.
Our Infant classes are for children aged 8months – 12months.
The aim of this class is to continue to educate families on the correct techniques and holding positions for their little ones who are developing strong mobility skills. Your swim instructor will guide you from the very beginning and explain the purpose of the activity.
There is a continued focus on water conditioning and building your child confidence through a variety of interactive and social activities. We focus on floating, kicking, reaching and recognising basic commands. We specifically tailor our lessons to achieve these skills through songs and rhyme as well as using sensory and colourful equipment to engage your child. Further more we encourage a diverse range of verbal commands which contribute to your child’s muscle memory
Water safety is another important aspect of our infant lessons. Both you and your child will be taught a safety exit and a controlled fall in as well as reaching for the designated safe zone.

Our Toddler Two class, aims for children of ages 2 years to 2.10 months old.
This class is a continue on from Toddler One, and encourages a range of already learnt skills, as well as introducing new crucial skills. We aim to progress your child/rens kicking, paddling and reaching skills. We further introduce new skills such as blowing bubbles, full face submersion and holding onto the edge which are all important to your child/rens learning to swim journey.
While parents/guardians are still by their sides, we focus on thriving your child/rens independence in the water and their confidence. Preparing them for our transition classes which see’s them work towards being self sufficient.
Our transition class is an eight week program and is aimed to focus on independence and weaning parents/guardians out of the pool so the children are prepared for the next stage by the age of 3 years old.
By the time the eight week program has been completed children should be able to achieve:
Safety Side in the pool
Monkey monkey to bench
Waiting their turn
Confident swimming without a parent/guardian.
This is the first non-parent/guardian class where your child/ren will independently take their lesson with their swim instructor.
This class will begin with recapping water conditioning, blowing bubbles and water safety. Your child will be asked to demonstrate their eyes (using googles) and ears in the water, blowing bubbles, kicking and paddling arms and more.
Your child/ren will explore a tailored lesson plan that aims at achieving specific skills to ensure that your child has the best possible outcome of becoming an independent and confident swimmer. We explore a range of basic swimming techniques, which are a follow from previous levels. We further introduce a range of equipment to help develop core strength and muscle memory such as kick boards and noodles, where they will learn to better propel themselves through the water towards streamline position.
Your child will be encouraged to combine different elements of swimming together and in different sequences, combining their skills together.
Based on your child/rens skills and development, our Level 2 class focuses on perfecting technique with long arms, straight legs and breath control. This will be broken down in several elements, working on strengthening their body positioning. This will contribute to floating and unassisted roll overs.
We introduce a range of safety drills, encouraging the child/ren to work on saving themselves using noodles, kick boards and swim rings, to prepare for them for a possible real life scenario.
Now that your child/ren have learned the correct body positioning, we focus on introducing correct stroke and kicking techniques for freestyle and backstroke. A well as streamline, we teach children the skill of strokes through a range of sequences with a kickboard, breaking it down before combining the movements together.
We further challenge children to have stronger breath control when their face is submerged.
As your child/ren has established the basic freestyle and backstroke arms and legs, we now focus on their strokes without the assistance of a kickboard. Using the full pool length, we further aim to develop breath control and core strength, contributing to their independent strokes. We also introduce bilateral breathing using a roll to ear technique.
By the time your child is ready to progress to the next level, they will be able to swim both freestyle and backstroke unassisted.
Your child will now be perfecting both their freestyle and backstroke techniques and will be capable of swimming four laps of the length of the pool continuously.
At this level, breaststroke and butterfly kick will be introduced, as a new skill to learn. By the end of this level, we aim for your child/ren to be able to swim a minimum of four laps of all focus strokes, with good arm and kick technique, good timing and glide.
This is our stroke development level and our goal is to improve your child/rens technique for freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, as well as be taught how to swim butterfly arms, incorporated with the kick.
Like previous taught stokes, the swim instructor will break down each stoke into separate elements and eventually combine them into one stroke, teaching the children about the timing and breathes.
Our adults class are for anyone over the age of 18 who would like to learn how to swim.
They are taught by a qualified Swim Coach, who will teach you from the very basics of learning to swim, help overcome anyone with fears of the water, introduce strokes and incorporate basic survival and rescue skills.

I recently became a Learn to Swim instructor in April last year 2023 with Family Aquatics. After signing my daughter up to swimming lessons, each week at her lesson, I took on board all instruction and knowledge on how to help her improve. This caught Lorna’s eye and asked if I thought about becoming an instructor as she thought I had the potential to help others like she helped me.
I used to work in childcare for many years before I had my daughter and I thoroughly enjoy working and giving the gift of education to children and watching them thrive in different areas of life.
I am both Teacher and Water Safety and Infant and preschooler qualified.
